Personal Experience with Cremation in Greensboro NC
MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH CREMATION…
I was devastated when my grandmother died two years ago. I have never felt emotional pain that great. Being born and raised in the southeastern United States, it is typical to take a traditional approach to matters pertaining death. Although embalming and burial are currently the top options, cremation is on the rise with over 30% of North Carolina residents choosing this method to memorialize their loved ones. As a family, however, we went against the grain and chose cremation as the way to remember my grandmother. Acquaintances of the family questioned our choise as if we had doomed my grandmother to hell for our decision. It was hard enough dealing with the death and being strong and supportive for my family, but to have to answer these illogical questions was beyond mind-boggling. Aren't people supposed to be supportive during times like these?
This is when my interest in cremation was sparked. It was literally an enlightening experience, an epiphany if you will. I conducted tons of research on the subject of cremation. This allowed me to educate people about my family's decision and why cremation was the right choice for us. Cremation is ecologically sound. You are not putting harsh chemicals into the ground and endangering our planet. Cremation is cost efficient. With the money that we saved by choosing cremation, we were able to donate a sum of money in my grandmother's honor to arthritis research. You can have your loved one with you at all times. If we decide to move as a family, we don't have to worry about grave upkeep. My grandmother's cremation urn looks beautiful sitting on the mantle above the fire place. It is as if her spirit still lingers in the room and that brings my family comfort. I was able to view my grandmother's body before she was placed in the cremation chamber. This gave me the peace of mind that the ashes I received were in fact my grandmother's. When I told this information to people they were amazed. Even those with the most traditional mindset were interested and said they would consider cremation for their loved ones in the future.
This is where my journey began as the owner of a crematory. It is my mission as the owner of Optima Cremation Service to educate everyone about cremation, cremation urns (there are so many beautiful ways to memorialize your loved one), and cremation costs (my family was able to donate to a cause we are passionate about with the money we saved by choosing cremation. Your family can do the same).
